Cashback Sites are a Must When Online Shopping

November 23, 2015

This holiday season, I’m sure you’ll be doing some online shopping – especially because some sales are really good. Already, I’ve been buying gifts – for myself. Whoops.

But before you add to cart and check out, make sure you are using cashback sites to earn some money. Before I buy anything online, I first log on to Ebates.  Ebates has hundreds of online retailers listed on its site. Before I do any shopping, I log on to Ebates, search for my retailer like Macy’s or Old Navy, and click through Ebates to go to my shopping destination. Retailers have anything from 1 – 5% cashback, and the amount of cash back varies throughout the year. Once I make a purchase, I’ll receive a check every quarter with my savings.

Recently I purchased a wedding gift at Macy’s. With coupons, I spent $192 -but I was lucky enough to get 3% cashback – so $5.76 was added to my account. The savings aren’t huge, but over time it adds up – I’ve saved more than $600 since joining Ebates. New members who join Ebates get $10 for joining, if they make a purchase of $25 or more within 90 days of signing up (easy to do this holiday season).

Just like you would shop around to see which retailer has the best price, you may want to consider shopping around cashback sites. I recently was introduced to Giving Assistant Giving Assistant is another cashback site, giving new members $5 when they sign up. What’s nice about Giving Assistant is you can give some of the funds you earn while shopping online to charity. You can select from a variety of charities (I chose Autism Speaks) and indicate what percentage of your cashback will go to charity. Some retailers, like Amazon, solely give a charity donation, rather than cashback. The charity will receive a check when you’ve received $25 or more in cashback.

If you decide to use Giving Assistant and are opting for cashback, you can cash out whenever you’d like. Just note you’ll need to have $5.01 in your account.

What sites do you use to save money when shopping online? Make sure to sign up for Paribus too, one of my other favorite online sites that will fight to price match for you.

I agree wholeheartedly! I have been a member of a similar site Mr. Rebates since 2007 and have gotten back nearly $2,000 on my purchases. Also, when I refer someone to Mr. Rebates and they sign up they still get the same cashback they always would, but I too get 20% of their purchase price as cashback for referring them. Once you get referrals the money really starts rolling in as everyone makes their online purchases.

One other thing I would recommend: If you work in an office and are the person to make travel arrangements (hotels, car rentals) or you are the person who purchases the holiday gift baskets and such – – those are big money purchases, so use your cashback sites for them too and rack up some cashback for yourself.
