Add This to Your Makeup Routine to Protect Your Skin

February 16, 2016

I’m almost 31, and all of a sudden I’m paying more attention to my skin. I’m moisturizing, I’m reading up on skin peels and I’m trying to up my sunscreen game. Yes, it’s winter, but I’m realizing my face gets more sunlight than I thought – from catching some rays in the car, to on the train, to walking around the city. While I know I’m quick to reach for the sunscreen when headed to the pool or the beach, I always forget about those times when it’s just a picnic outside, going applepicking or even snow shoveling – you are just at risk then too, and in the cooler weather, at the very least it’s just my face and hands exposed.

I’ve always tried to make sunscreen part of my makeup routine. I’m usually a tinted moisturizer kind of gal, using products like Clinique Almost Makeup or Garnier BB Cream. But those are only SPF 15 – which means if used correctly, if I could stand outside for 10 minutes without getting burned, with an SPF of 15, I could stay outside for 150 minutes until getting some color. Since UVA and UVB rays can cause photodamage, the primary cause of signs of aging. I knew it was time to up my sunscreen game, before the big 3-1 hits.

Luckily, I had the chance to try Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector SPF50, an ultra-fine transparent mineral sunscreen. This can be worn alone, or as part of your makeup routine. I chose to put on my First Aid Beauty Repair Cream first,  and then the Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector SPF50. I shook it for a while, before pouring it into my hand. I noticed right off the bat it’s fragrance-free. It’s a little runny and I worried it would be oily, but quickly is absorbed into your skin – it was very sheer. I also was surprised that it was tinted, but it is an universal tint that smoothes imperfections and helps natural skin tone appear more even. Since we were about to go on a date, I added my Garnier BB Cream for additional color, but I could see myself wearing it alone if running errands on the weekend.

Beyond protecting you from the damage from the sun, the Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector SPF50 contains:

  • Multi-antioxidants Vitamin E and Lactobionic Acid to fortify skin’s natural defense, scavenging free radicals brought on by daily environmental aggressors before they can cause premature aging
  • A PHA/Bionic complex helps prevent collagen breakdown to maintain a healthy skin matrix and firmness, and helps prevent signs of photoaging such as lines and wrinkles
  • A highly purified and concentrated form of Green Tea Extract reduces cell breakdown and helps protect cellular DNA for healthy skin

So basically, the product stops aging and protects from sun damage? I’ll take it! I wondered how so many benefits could be packed into the bottle and then saw in grey: DERMATOLOGIST DEVELOPED. I did some research and found that Exuviance is created by Drs. Van Scott and Yu, widely recognized as leaders in the field of cosmetic dermatology. They discovered the antiaging benefits of Glycolic Acid and created and patented the first Glycolic Peel. These two clearly know what they are doing and have been making skincare products since 1988.

While the Sheer Daily Protector SPF50 is great for all skin types, the Exuviance website has additional recommendations for products depending on your skin type. There are also cleansers, masques, serums and peel treatments.

If you decide to add one step to your makeup routine, consider adding sunscreen. If you decide to add Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector SPF50, it retails for $42. You can purchase online or check out a location that carries the product line here.

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post – I received Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector SPF50 in exchange for a review. Opinions are my own, and in all honestly, I have worried more about my skin lately (hence reading an article on skin peels).
