Why You Should Reverse Your Shower Routine

In high school, while everyone was getting nominated for most school spirit and most athletic, I actually came in third place for the superlative, most unchanged. I’m not surprised. I’ve looked the same since I was in 6th grade and ditched my glasses, I’ve had the same best friend since I was 5 and I always had the same drive in high school towards my classes that I have at work today.

While I am clearly a fan of routines, sometimes you need a change. And when I partnered with TRESemmé to try their new Beauty-Full Volume Collection, I was flabbergasted when I took my shampoo and conditioner and headed into the shower. All my life I’ve been in a routine of shampoo and then if I’m feeling like it – which is rare – I condition. Shampoo. Condition. Shampoo. Condition. And to be honest, conditioning for me is rare because I hate how weighed down my hair normally felt after I did it.

With the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Collection, the rules of washing your hair have totally been rewritten. This time, you condition first, and then wash your hair with shampoo – there are even numbers on the bottles to remind you which product goes first.

First, I started with the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Pre-wash Conditioner. This conditioner actually has Fiber Polishing technology that reinforces your hair’s natural protective layer. This pre-wash conditioner actually protects your hair during washing to leave your hair feeling smooth and polished. After keeping the Pre-wash Conditioner on for about a minute, I then used the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Shampoo, which not only cleaned my hair, but left a light conditioning layer. My hair is normally frizzy and static-y, and as someone who doesn’t change, for the past 15 years or so I’ve gone as far as to spray Static Guard on my hair. After washing my hair with this shampoo, the static was definitely controlled – even when wearing a wool sweater.

But that’s not all of the Beauty-Full Volume Collection. I tried the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximizer, using about a dime-size worth of cream and running it through my damp hair. Since my hair is frizzy, I was most excited to give this a try, as it contains Fleximax Volumizers and Fiber Polishing Actives to provide bounce, frizz control, smoothness and manageability – basically every adjective that my hair normally isn’t. If you are more of a mousse girl, there is also TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Touchable Bounce Mousse that can also give you an added lift.

After using these two products and blow drying, I went to bed and straightened my hair this morning. My routine wasn’t complete without the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Flexible Finish Hairspray. I use hairspray every day, and normally it leaves my hair crunchy and makes it really hard to put a brush through it. This held the look of my hair, but managed to keep it soft.

The entire Beauty-Full Volume Collection retails for about $20. If you are thinking of making a change and reversing your hair washing routine, don’t switch the bottles just yet – you can’t switch the order of your normal shampoo and conditioner to achieve the same results.

Those high school superlatives were now 13 years ago. While I still may look the same at I did back in 1997, I’m glad I’m much more comfortable making changes to my routine – at least my hair thanks me.
